Dido, nome con cui è nota Dido Florian Cloud De Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong, nata il giorno di Natale del 1971, a Londra.
Dido è una delle mie cantanti preferite. Lo è sempre stata, fin dal suo esordio e dalle prime hit, tra cui quella Thank You, che per qualche mese è stata la suoneria di un mio vecchio cellulare.
Come superflua nota personale vi rivelo che Dido è anche una di quelle cantanti che mi fa compagnia quando scrivo. La sua musica, a metà tra il pop d’autore, l’elettronica d’atmosfera e il malinconico non compiaciuto, è perfetta per le mie corde emotive.
Dei suoi dischi non si può fare a meno di celebrare la grande cura riservata agli arrangiamenti, anche grazie alla collaborazione con suo fratello Rollo, già leader dei Faithless, nonché grande musicista.
Inutile (o forse no) aggiungere che Dido è apprezzabile anche nel suo essere elegante e riservata, bella ma non appariscente.
Dopo la morte del padre molti la davano in crisi, infatti ci ha fatto aspettare anni prima di tornare sul mercato. L’ha fatto recentemente con Girl who got away, titolo deliziosamente ironico, ma soprattutto disco più solare dei precedenti, e decisamente godibile.

The Guests of Plutonia: Dido

Dido is the stage name of Dido Florian Cloud De Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong. She was born on Christmas Day of 1971, in London.
Dido is one of my favorite singers. It always has been, since her debut and the first hit songs, including the Thank You, that for a few months was ringing to my old phone.
As a personal curiosity I reveal that Dido is also one of those singers who acts as my background music when I write. Her songs, halfway between pop auteur, electronics, atmospheric and melancholic, are perfect for my emotional chords.
Of her records we must emphasize the great care given to the arrangements, also thanks to the collaboration with her brother Rollo, leader of the Faithless, and great musician himself.
Needless (or maybe not) to add that Dido is appreciable even in its being elegant and discreet, beautiful but not flashy.
After her father’s death, many journalists thought that Dido was in personal crisis; is no coincidence that she made us wait years before returning to the market. She has recently returned with Girl who got away, deliciously ironic title, but above the previous record more energetic, and very enjoyable.
